Do muslims have special customs for children

Do muslims have special customs for children?
My half-brother is almost 5yo, his dad is a Muslim from Yemen but has lived in Britain for years. His dad always knew where he lived but now that my brother is almost 5 he's suddenly taken an interest in him. Is this a muslim thing???

no, most likely it isnt. but maybe, now that the boy is beginning to learn, maybe he wants to introduce him to islam. like raise him up with that religion.

Is it a Muslim thing to be interested in your children? Not specifically its a "parent thing". As we dont know all the specifics of your family situation we really cannot comment fully. I'm not asking you your personal business but as a parent its not unusual to be interested in your child. Maybe personal circumstances up to now prevented him.

You mean the same kinda customs Catholic priests have with children?

His son his growing up, and now he's upon the point where you don't need to change his dipers or give him hot milk every night.

It's both a "parent thing" and a "Muslim thing", but usually it comes from people who are not very practicing. In Islam one should be giving attention to his kids all the time and not when they reach 5 years, but what happens in many cases, is that a half-practicing or non-practicing Muslim wakes up to the fact that he has a kid and that he should raise him as a Muslim, and then trouble starts because he never thought about it when he got married to a non-Muslim lady. I believe it's all the mistake of these men.
